How many months of validity does my passport need?
It depends on the destination, and that is exactly the trap. The most common rule is six months from arrival —110 of the 225 destinations—, but Turkey counts 150 days, Costa Rica asks for one, and 35 countries also require the passport to have been issued less than ten years ago. Whoever rounds it to “about five months” gets stuck at the check-in desk.
Why count from my arrival and not from the expiry date?
Because the airline does not check whether your passport is valid today: it checks whether it will still be valid on the day the country requires. That is why the date that matters is not the expiry date but the last day you can arrive and still comply. That is what this tool works out with just two details.
Does it work if my passport is not British?
As a guide, yes; as a certainty, no. The source is British advice written for British passport holders. For many destinations the validity requirement is the same whatever your nationality, but we do not check it country by country and we will not say we did. The visa your nationality needs is in the Enter tab, for the 41 destinations with a profile.
Do you store my passport dates?
No. Your expiry date, issue date and travel dates are calculated in your browser and are not sent to any server, ours or anyone else’s. That has not changed and will not change. There are no accounts and no form asking for your email either. What there is, since August 2026, is an external affiliate-link service you can turn down with one click: it is fully explained in the privacy policy.
Does this guarantee I will be let in?
No, and be wary of anyone who promises it. The final decision always rests with the immigration officer, who can ask you for things no database records. What we do is calculate correctly what is written down, which is exactly where people get it wrong.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. No account, no plan, no free trial.
